Batangas Weekend

J invited us for a relaxing weekend in her hometown in Batangas. Unfortunately, only the 2 of us (P and I) were available. K was needed by her household (and husband), M was going to be busy preparing for her son's birthday party that same weekend, G was going to watch Cats, and R wanted to just rest over the weekend. So it was just the 3 of us. They'll just see our pictures in FB. Ha!

We left Manila around 5:30am to avoid the weekend traffic and to catch the early morning chill of Tagaytay.

Our first stop was breakfast in Tagaytay. After an hour and a half of driving from Manila, we finally arrived in the second summer capital of the Philippines (also called the Philippine's Best Kept Secret). The road was covered in fog and it was very cold! Brrrr!

We had breakfast at Pancake House. We had pancake (what else!) and shared a large plate of pasta. Yummy! After breakfast, we moved next door to Starbucks. It was still foggy and it rained a bit. After some time, it cleared up, still a bit foggy but clear enough to take pictures of Taal Volcano. Did you know that its a volcano within a lake?

J pointed to us Mt. Makulot, which is the mountain behind Taal Volcano. Now we know.

Next stop was Sonya's Garden but before leaving, I bought 2 scarves at the souvenir stand near the parking area. One red for my sister and another one for myself :)

At Sonya's Garden, before buying goodies from their Panaderia, we went around the garden and took pictures. It's a good thing they now have the Bed and Breakfast. Oh yeah, we bought spanish bread, pan de coco (E said it should be Pan de Pandan because of the green color of the "coco"), and hopia. I also bought their bottled Tilapia in Olive Oil (Rose said it's good).

Around 11am, we left Tagaytay and drove to historic Taal. Aside from being known for Taal Volcano, it is also home to famous people in Philippine history. We first went to the Agoncillo House, the ancestral home of Dona Marcela Marino de Agoncillo, the principal seamstress of the first and official flag of the Philippines, gaining her the title of Mother of the Philippine Flag. It was sewn in Hong Kong and the same flag that General Emilo Aguinaldo waved in Cavite in 1898 during the independence of the Philippines. The old house is big, spacious, and well kept. The first floor had been converted to a museum, with the basement used as a location for exhibits and storage of more old stuff.

Next stop was the Don Leon Apacible Museum. Don Leon Apacible was a lawyer and judge. He was appointed finance office of Batangas and delegate to the Malolos Congreess. This ancestral home of Don Leon Apacible was converted to a museum with the first floor showing old pictures during the American period and family treasures on the second floor.

Next stop was the Basilica of St. Martin or more popularly known as the Basilica de San Martin de Tours, the biggest Catholic Basilica Church in the Far East. I've heard of the name of the church before but its the first time I visited the church. Within the vicinity of the church is the Taal Park.

By 1:00pm, we arrived in J's family's Pamintahan ni Ka Andoy in Alitagtag, Batangas, better known as the Pepperidge Farm, for lunch.

After a long siesta at the Pepperidge, we went to Valentino Resort and Spa, a 20+ minute drive to the neighboring town of San Jose, for a much needed massage. After all that walking and talking the whole day, we needed that massage.

The next day, we were back in Valentino Resort and Spa to bask in the sun and, oh yeah, to swim ;)

After swimming, we left San Jose around 1:30pm to look for Batangas' version of Lomi. We found a small carinderia along the long highway going back to Alitagtag. J ordered inihaw na baboy and rice that came with free soup and after P and I were already busog, the lomi came, served in a medium-sized bowl but was filled to the rim. Shamefully, we didn't finish the delicious lomi (the lomi itself was a full meal already) --- there's always a next time ;)

After that stomach filling lunch, we went back to Alitagtag for siesta.

At around 4:30pm, we had to bid the Pepperidge goodbye. J stayed behind to be with her family and will just come to the office the next day. On our way to Manila, we stopped by Tagaytay to have dinner at Cafe Breton. I had Deja Vu and P had La Pinay and coffee.

To cap off our relaxing weekend, we stayed a few minutes more to soak up Tagaytay and Taal Volcano.

At 8:30pm-ish, we were back in Manila! Back to reality! Back to the GRIND!

How to Have Fun in Tagaytay (...or something like that)

1. Get a kick out of seeing a blonde kid ride a tricycle.

Not sure if that's Charlie or Max...

2. Ride the Tagaytay Ridge Cable Car ala "The Mist."

3. Take a picture of Ron riding the Tagaytay Ridge Zipline.

Yes, that's Ron. It's the only picture we got of him =). Sorry, Ron!

4. How do you act out "Quantum of Solace" in Charades?

5. Daydream while waiting to get on the cable car.

6. Are these sentences made by smart (and sober) people ?

A bad boy is great.

PARD Business process simplify everything.

Uma is pretty little baby.

The fox and the dog.

7. At Paradizoo, its a choice of riding a carabao pulled cart or walking on slippery, wet ground, knowing this would equal to our feet getting soaked in mud???

Boring, right?

Weekend #31

Saturday, 4 August. Haaaaay. Good thing that cocktail drink we had last night walang hangover, nakapag-gym pa ako hehehe. You know, when I’m happy and I drink, I’m makulit...and I don't drink when I'm sad kasi lasing na nga ako, may hangover pa. Ang mas masaklap, malungkot pa rin ako...They say, you drink to remember not to forget.

************
[a few weeks ago]
Me: Wanna go out?
Pam: Sige, kakaresign ko lang. Wen?
Me: WAAAT??? Kaw, wen?
Pam: Hmmm…Aug 4.
Me: Cge. I’ll txt d oders.
Me texting HS barkada: Meet tayo on Sat, Aug 4, tyo tyo lng. Phi Bar Metrowalk
Donna*: Did u invite Tina*? Hir’s her # ______
Me: Ah. Ok.
Tina: Hi Rhea, herd ur organizing a gmk. Wat if gawin n lng nting mini reunion?
Me: Ok lng. I’ll txt r oder btchm8s n meron ako # nila. U also txt oders u knw.
[No reply from Tina.]

[a few days before 4 August]
Pam: So hus going?
Me: I dnt knw. U, me, Patty, BJ, the usual. Di lang pwede si Malu at si Cathy. Cynth* sed she’ll try to contact Glenda* Surprise n lng. If dey dnt come, fyn. Kung dalawa lang tyo. Mas masaya. Hahahahaha
*not their real names.

8 came. 6 batchmates, 1 husband, 1 girlfriend. (go figure!)
Ang nagsuggest na mini reunion daw, hindi sumipot. The nerve. Remind me never to include them in my next invite. Hahaha.

Metro Phi Bar. We used to frequent another bar in Eastwood but when Metrowalk opened a few years ago, it was the nearest place (as in walang aangal na kesyo malayo or what) to go since most of my HS barkada from SPCPasig just comes from the immediate vicinity. But I don't think we're ever going back to Phi Bar again.

We ordered lost of drinks and food for the group. Everything was okay but the sisig was a another story. While my friend was doing the honors of putting the kalamansi and seasoning, she found a hair (a long one) from the sisig. So we called the waiter and they offered to replace it. Fine. So back to normal, another round of drinks, kwento ulit about life, kids, work, SPCP, batchmates, sex, sexual preference, casual sex, f*ck buddies, etc. And then another round of drinks and food was ordered.

Halfway through another dish (assorted platter), my other friend, Patty, found another piece of hair which she literally pulled out from her mouth (she was eating buffalo wings). Ewwww!!! Since this was the second time, we asked for the manager, but only the supervisor came out. Well guess what, the supervisor, after conferring with whoever behind the bar, came back and told us that it was "unlikely that there is hair specimen in the food...it is the first time that it happened to us...we don't have employees with that kind of hair color." Whaaaaaat!!!!! So you're saying that we planted that hair???? WTF!!!! We couldn't believe it. It was already past 2am and we still wanted to drink and stay longer but we were so pissed off that they gave us no choice but to leave. They probably thought we were a bunch of 3o somethings looking for f*cking freebies. Ughhhhh!!! So we asked and paid for the f*cking bill and left. Since it was already late, we just stayed at Starbucks where we continued our kwentuhan. To make the long story short, we all got home past 5am.

Forgot to tell Bex that when we (me and my HS barkada) go out, 4am is still early to go home. Kahit weekday pa siya. I got worried for Bex because she has vertigo and it's bad for her to be puyat. Good thing she slept the whole afternoon of Saturday. Atta, girl! So I woke up at 4pm Sunday, ate brunch (actually hindi na siya brunch). Just stayed home, left lang to hear mass (good girl daw), and was finally able to finish Prison Break Season 2. Whew!!!

So, to sum it all up, looks like we're going back to Eastwood. See you soon, Jack!!!

Weekend #30

Saturday, 28 July. Dual Meet with BDO-EquitablePCI Group. PowerSmash Makati. Email said, “Be there at 8:45am.” Dang it. Sobrang aga naman. Sarap pa naman matulog. (Just had volleyball tourney on Thursday, Basketball game last night, and today Badminton naman). Hmmmm…Just grabbed something to eat at McDo and picked up good friends Haze and Bex at 8:15am from the office. Our contribution (or non-contribution) was 0-3, 3-0 and 2-1. Okay lang, that was not the highlight of the day anyway. Hehehe.

Amici. You guessed right, this was the highlight of the day. LUF, SMN and Georgia (second time to join the gang) joined our little food trip to the most appropriately named place to get to know new friends. As you should know by now, “Amici” is Italian for “friends.” Each one of us (including Bex, Haze, K, Meyri, and myself) ordered different pasta dishes (I got the Linguine al Nero di Sepia – black noodles with seafood sauce) and 2 yummy pizzas (Al Quattro Formaggi and another one I could not remember at the moment – memory gap ata). Georgia was the lucky recipient of my shrimps and mussels which she ate wholeheartedly (istorbo kasi sa pagkain ko e hahaha). For dessert: LUF and K both got Brazo de Mercedes, Georgia ordered Mango Tango, and Haze got herself a Tiramisu. Of course Meyri, had Gelato (Nocciola, right?). Although we had to rush back to PowerSmash because we were afraid we might get caught in the rain, we all had that funny busog na busog smile on our faces. Deserves another visit.

Sunday, 29 July. Tess said she’ll pick me up at 10:30am. So that would mean I have to hear mass really early, as in 8:30am, because I doubt it if we will be back home before dark. Actually, we were going to Alabang for the surprise birthday party organized by our friend Maila for her husband, Butch. Remember Butch and my pakaw? Thank goodness, there was no traffic even though we got lost after exiting Alabang. Nenette had to get us at Honda Alabang so we could follow her to get to Maila’s house. We got there just in time for Butch’s arrival. The long trip and the getting lost part were all worth it when we saw how surprised and pleased Butch was. He wasn’t expecting his relatives, including Maila’s closest friends from work, to be there. His smile was priceless! Good one, Maila! While everyone was enjoying the party, we stayed at the couple’s bedroom and watched some DVDs. Did I mention that their house was newly renovated? We were on the bed, the three of us (me, Nenette and Tess) and in comes Butch with his relatives (his titas).

(We were frozen stiff on the bed, too shocked to move)
Us 3: Nyahahahaha.

By 3:00pm, we were the only guests left, all their relatives have gone and good thing Ruby and Jay arrived to complete the barkada. Shempre, we had to go down and eat again with the new comers. We left Alabang around 6:00pm. On our way back to Manila, Tess and I agreed that we should do that more often, spend a relaxing day with close friends, have good conversation, good laugh, no pretensions, no anything. To be with people you can talk to about anything under the sun without being judged…that’s friendship.

Weekend #27

My weekend was uneventful.

Saturday
7 July 2007. 9:30am. Aero Marathon. Hehehe. I didn't join, I just watched. Saw familiar faces among the contestants, Jake, Cecile, Sue, Ja, Eufie, Lelet. I think the part I enjoyed the most was the cool down session – Belly Dancing!!! It’s such a sensual dance. It looks easy but it’s not. You have to coordinate your stomach and hip movements or else it won’t look sexy. Watching the instructor, all I could think was I wish I could gyrate like that hahahaha kaya lang naisip ko palakihan na lang ng tyan!!!

12:15pm. Gym. Ahhhhh!!! I had the gym all to myself. Since I was all alone, I did not need my DAP so I changed the TV channel from Discovery to MTV AND increased the volume. Just cardio, 40 on the cross trainer and 40 on the treadmill.

Wimbledon. Women’s Singles Semi Finals. Justine Henin lost to Marion Bartoli of France (seeded 18), 1-6, 7-5, 6-1. Marion won all because of Pierce Brosnan. During the post game interview, while playing she saw Pierce Brosnan cheer for her from the players’ box. She’s a big fan of the former James Bond star and she said she was going to be embarrassed if she loses so she stepped up her game and eventually won over Justine *one big sigh*

P.S. As of this writing, Venus Williams won over Marion, 6-4, 6-1, to claim her fourth Wimbledon Women’s Singles title. Meanwhile, Roger Federer has won his fifth Wimbledon Men’s Singles title against Rafael Nadal in 5 sets, 7-6, 4-6, 7-6, 2-6, 6-2.

UAAP Basketball. La Salle won over UP, 82-61, in the season opener. Nuff said.
Animo La Salle!

Sunday
7:00am. Woke up early. Was still too sleepy to get the newspapers from downstairs so I just got my digicam (my trusty old Casio QV-R51), some small toys that my nephew left in our room, and did some micro/macro picture taking.

12:00nn. Heard mass with my Kuya’s family. I lost my favorite earring’s left pakaw (earring lock) because my niece was playing with a hair clip that she kept “clipping” to my ear. The clip must have clung to my earring that when my niece tugged on it, I felt the earring and pakaw fall. I was able to catch the earring but the pakaw, hindi ko nasalo. When I searched for it, it was nowhere in sight. Must have been kicked/stepped on by the other church goers. Oh well, I’ll just use some other pakaw from my other earrings …sayang, yon pa naman first investment ko when I started working (with a matching ring that I hardly use) *sigh*

PM. Was planning to go to Rockwell with my sister-in-law and the kids, kaya lang something came up that required me to stay home. So, the next best thing to do was take a nap.

Later in the PM. Got pissed off with my Kuya (something about what he said). Arghhhh!!! He proved to be an asshole again…brothers!!!!! #($&@%(&@$(%& @#&*( hahahahahaha

Much Later. Found out Baby Face will be in Manila on 13 October for a concert at the Araneta. Just thought you’d want to know…
